Holt, Conley Qualify for Track & Field National Championships
Swarthmore College women’s track & field student-athletes Clay Conley ’20, a music and gender & sexuality studies special major from New Canaan, Conn., and Broomall, Pa., native Lauren Holt ’21 have qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships, taking place in Geneva, Ohio, from Thursday, May 23, to Saturday, May 25.
Conley is competing in the shot put on Friday at 2 p.m. and enters the competition ranked third among the group of 22 athletes with a top throw of 14.45 meters (47 feet 5 inches) this season. The top eight placers in each event at nationals receive All-American honors. Conley took seventh at the NCAA indoor championships in March.
Holt is a national qualifier for the first time. She’ll run in the 400-meter dash as the 17th-ranked athlete in a group of 22 with a season-best finish of 56.82 seconds. Holt’s preliminary heat at nationals is on Friday at 3 p.m. If she qualifies, she will compete in the finals on Saturday at 1:10 p.m.
The women’s track & field program has produced at least one outdoor All-American in five of the past six seasons, including 1,500-meter national champion Katie Jo McMenamin ’16 in 2016.
