The softball team is riding a 10-game winning streak, which it will put on the line on Tuesday, May 3, as it welcomes Gettysburg College for a 4:30 p.m. clash on Clothier Softball Field.

Swarthmore College’s spring sports teams picked up right where the fall and winter squads left off, with successful seasons that have given them momentum entering this week’s Centennial Conference playoffs and championship meets.

The softball team leads the way and hosts the conference tournament as the top-seeded team. The Garnet compiled a near-perfect 15-1 mark against Centennial opponents as part of a 26-4 overall record, the most wins in program history. The team is riding a 10-game winning streak, which it will put on the line on Tuesday, May 3, as it welcomes Gettysburg College for a 4:30 p.m. clash on Clothier Softball Field. Regardless of the result, Swarthmore will host the remainder of the double-elimination tournament on Friday and Saturday.

The baseball team will also host conference contests this week as the Centennial’s top seed. The Garnet compiled a 14-4 record in conference play, including a series split against Franklin & Marshall College to earn hosting rights. The team is hoping for a repeat of the 2018 season when it won the conference title as the number-one seed en route to an appearance in the Division III World Series. The postseason begins on Thursday, May 5, with a 3:30 p.m. game against Johns Hopkins on Clothier Baseball Field.

Last weekend, the 27th-ranked women’s tennis team suffered a narrow defeat at Johns Hopkins and ended up as the second seed in the conference postseason. With a 13-2 record, the Garnet are looking to reach the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007. Swarthmore hosts Haverford College in the conference semifinals on Saturday, May 7 at 3 p.m. The winner of that match will play the following day in Baltimore against either Johns Hopkins or the winner of Washington College and Franklin & Marshall.

It’s a similar story for the men’s tennis team, which fell to Johns Hopkins and thus will enter the conference tournament as the second seed. The Garnet also host Haverford on Saturday, May 7 at 11 a.m., and would travel to Baltimore on May 8 if they win.

The women’s lacrosse team is making its first conference tournament appearance since 2012. Swarthmore clinched the fifth seed with a 9-8 win over Bryn Mawr College last weekend. The team will hit the road on Wednesday, May 4 for a game against fourth-seeded Washington College; the winner of that contest will play Gettysburg College on Saturday, May 7.

The track and field teams are gearing up for the conference championship meet, which will be held at Ursinus College from May 6-8. On the women’s side, Adria Retter ’23 holds the fourth-best Division III mark in discus and the 13th-best in shot put, Nora Blodgett ’22 ranks 16th in the steeplechase, and Emily Trelstad ’25 has the 19th-best mark in the high jump.

Previously, the men’s golf team finished fourth overall at the Centennial Conference Championships, as Gyan Bains ’23 and Ankur Malik ’22 placed sixth and 10th, respectively.
