Fall Sports Playoff Action
Men's Soccer Earns NCAA Championship At-Large Berth; Will Serve as 1st and 2nd Round Host
The No. 9/10 Swarthmore College men's soccer team (14-2-2) has received an at-large berth to the 2012 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament and will serve as a first and second round host this weekend. In first round action, the Garnet will square off against Albertus Magnus (15-3-3), champions of the GNAC, on Sat., Nov. 10, at 5 p.m. from the College's Clothier Field Stadium. In the other first round contest from the College, RPI (9-5-6) - champions of the Liberty League - will face Christopher Newport (15-3-2) - an at-large selection from the USA South - at 7:30 p.m.
The NCAA Division III Championship Tournament second round match-up between the two first-round winners will take place on Sun., Nov. 11, at 5 p.m. The Department of Athletics will buy tickets for students, faculty, staff, and alumni that show a Swarthmore ID at the games. The department will also cover tickets for any children wearing Swarthmore College gear who are accompanied by parents.
The NCAA Championship Tournament appearance is the Garnet's seventh in program history and fourth in the past five seasons.
All NCAA games from Clothier Field Stadium can be viewed live on the Garnet Sports Network.
Swarthmore is one of three Centennial Conference teams to make the NCAA field, accompanied by Haverford and Dickinson.
In related Centennial Conference news, four members of the men's soccer team - John Pontillo '13, Peter Maxted '14, Jack Momeyer '14, and Michael Stewart '15 - have been named to the All-Centennial Conference First Team, while Noah Sterngold '14 was named to the Second Team and Cameron French '14 was named an Honorable Mention selection. Women's soccer is hosting the ECAC South Region Championship Semifinals and Final
Women's soccer is hosting the ECAC South Region Championship Semifinals and Final this weekend. We are the No. 2 seed and host Wilkes at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. That game is followed by No. 1 seed Stevenson vs. No. 4 seed Lebanon Valley at 1:30 p.m. The winners of the semifinals will play in the final on Sunday at 1 p.m. The women's team is aiming for the program's fourth ECAC Championship.
The volleyball team is also in the ECAC South Region Semifinals
