Bernice King

King will give a keynote about her own social justice efforts, her family’s philosophy of nonviolence and love-centered activism, and the multi-dimensional work and legacies of her parents, followed by a short Q&A session.

Dr. Bernice A. King, daughter of Rev. Martin Luther King and Coretta Scott King, will be visiting Swarthmore on Friday, Jan. 24. She will give a keynote about her own social justice efforts, her family’s philosophy of nonviolence and love-centered activism, and the multi-dimensional work and legacies of her parents in LPAC’s Pearson-Hall Theatre at 7:00 p.m., followed by a short Q&A session.

Earlier that day, there will be a MLK Collection and light lunch, offered as a time for community reflection, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Swarthmore Friends Meeting House. King will not be able to attend the Collection.

King has been invited to Swarthmore by the Black Cultural Center with support from the William J. Cooper Foundation. Her visit will conclude Swarthmore’s MLK Week commemorations.

King is a global thought leader, strategist, solutionist, orator, peace advocate, and CEO of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center For Nonviolent Social Change (The King Center), which was founded by her mother as the official living memorial to the life, work, and legacy of her father. In this position, she continues to advance her parents’ legacy of nonviolent social change through policy, advocacy, research, education, and training.
