The Unknown Want
The Department of Theater presents two original collective creations by the students of Directing II, the Advanced Directing Workshop (THEA 055). A reception with the directors and actors will follow each performance. This event is free and open to the public.
Holding the Halcyon
Based on Ovid's telling of the Greek myth of Ceyx and Alcyone, a pair of tragic lovers turned into birds as a punishment from the Gods, Holding the Halcyon explores the ways in which we change and begin to self-destruct in relationships. Using the myth as an allegory, the play focuses on this couple through a multitude of lenses. Created through a collective collaboration, the piece tears apart and eventually reassembles the pair leaving the audience to ask how they can begin again. Directed by Adrienne Mackey. Featuring Ben Camp, Sam Dingman, Kate Hurster, Felicia Leicht, and Sarah Yardney. Lighting design by Charles Coes.
Seeking Ceasefire
Using a number of classic and found texts, Seeking Ceasefire talls a metaphoric tale of the human experience which asks, are we naturally flawed beings? How much control do we have over our lives? Actors' personal interactions with the ever-intriguing "Seven Deadly Sins" provide the background for answering these questions, in this highly moral yet entertaining collective work in progress. Directed by Marc Boucai. Featuring Alejandro Acevedo Ali, Rebecca Ennen, Jyoti Gupta, and Nick Malakhow. Lighting design by Emine Fisek.
