Fat Men in Skirts
Senior Company 2006
The Swarthmore College Department of Theater and Senior Company 2006 present Fat Men in Skirts, an uproariously funny pitch-black comedy by Nicky Silver. Witness the coming of age of Bishop Hogan, a stuttering, pigeon-toed eleven year-old, after he and his mother, Phyllis, crash land on an uncharted Atlantic island. During the five years they are stranded there, Bishop gradually transforms from an effeminate child into a wild savage, while Phyllis becomes increasingly needy and unraveled. Meanwhile, in his wife and son's absence, film director Howard Hogan is free to pursue his ex-porn star mistress, Pam, who plans to marry Howard and turn her life around. An absurd fantasy becomes an acerbic farce when Phyllis and Bishop return to civilization to resume, or so Howard hopes, their "normal" lives...
Silver's rhythmic writing and first-rate sense of tone and mood allow him to glide easily through humor and tragedy, the grotesque and the sensual. Join us December 2nd at 8PM, Dec 3rd at 2PM and 8PM, and December 4th at 6PM in the Frear Ensemble Theater in the lower level of LPAC for a mature but sidesplitting evening of entertainment that explores the absurd side of normality, and the journey of an outcast.
