Dan Rothenberg, Swarthmore class of 1995, is a founding member and co-artistic director of the Pig Iron Theatre Company. Dan has directed many of the company's original creations to date, including Poet in New York, Flop, Anodyne, Gentlemen Volunteers, and The Lucia Joyce Cabaret. Dan co-directed Shut Eye with Joseph Chaikin, which premiered at the Philadelphia Fringe in 2001 and will be seen at Dance Theatre Workshop in May 2004.
Dan studied theater and mask at Ecole Jacques Lecoq and Shakespeare & Company, as well as with Ariane Mnouchkine, Sotigui Kouyate, the San Francisco Mime Troupe, and American Repertory Theater. As a teacher, Dan leads workshops for professional actors and dancers through Pig Iron, with a focus on ensemble playmaking and the techniques of Jacques Lecoq. He has also taught workshops in physical theater at many Philadelphia area colleges, including semester-long courses at University of the Arts and Swarthmore College.
Along with Pig Iron co-artistic directors Quinn Bauriedel and Dito van Reigersberg, Dan was awarded a Pew Fellowship in the Arts for Performance Art in 2002.
