Costume Design (THEA 014C): Desta Pulley '17
Rococo gown, independent study project in design and construction
Desta's favorite costume pieces are the ones on TV shows or in movies and plays that are historical, because the attention to detail and decoration is so meticulous and always results in a beautiful product. Desta loves elaborate and ostentatious ball gowns especially, and what better time period to recreate ostentation than the Rococo era of France? This era in nobility fashion was characterized by luxury and excessive ornamentation, and I wanted to experience firsthand what sort of work went into creating such a detailed garment. This project is an exploration of historical recreation (with the help of some modern-day shortcuts) and an indulgence of fantasies of making and wearing a Rococo gown.
