Charnelle Hicks ’88
Charnelle Hicks ’88 was recently appointed chairwoman of the Board of Directors for the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary. The group’s focus is to improve the health of the Delaware Estuary, an ecosystem that spans Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey. Hicks joined the group in 2006 and became its vice chairwoman just three years later. Hicks is president and principal planner of CHPlanning Ltd., a firm she founded in 2000 that specializes in redesigning and reinventing urban spaces such as downtowns and airports in an environmentally conscious way. With 17 other professionals, CHPlanning Ltd. has offices in Philadelphia; Delaware County, Pa.; Pittsburgh; Houston; and New Orleans. In late 2011, Hicks received top honors for her firm for diversity in the workplace from the Women’s Transportation Seminar, an international organization dedicated to the advancement of women in transportation, with more than 4,000 members. She has twice represented the United States at the International Airport Cities conference in Singapore, the first time in 2007 and again in 2011.
