In February, the Board of Managers approved the promotion of three faculty members from associate to full professorship: Historian and current Departmental Chair Bruce Dorsey is a scholar of early American, 19th-century, U.S., gender, social, and cultural history. Chair of the Department of Religion Steven Hopkins specializes in Hinduism and Buddhism in South Asia, comparative religion, and religion and literature. Philosophy scholar Tamsin Lorraine’s research interests include phenemonology, existentialism, post-structuralism, and feminist theory.
Professor of Philosophy and Department Chair Peter Baumann, a scholar of epistemology, philosophy of mind, practical philosophy, history of modern philosophy, and contemporary analytical philosophy, was granted continuous tenure.
Three faculty members were promoted from assistant to associate professor with continuous tenure: Political scientist Benjamin Berger is a scholar of modern political theory and democratic theory. Musicologist Barbara Milewski pursues research in the areas of Chopin, 19th- and 20th-century musical nationalism, symphony, opera, and music of the Holocaust. Biochemist Stephen Miller performs research on the ways in which bacteria communicate with each other on the molecular level.
Jill Gladstein, who has directed the Writing Associates Program since 2001, was promoted, in a nontenured position, from assistant to associate professor of English literature.
