Stanton Wortham ’85—Faculty Director Stanton Wortham ’85 became faculty director of the Online Learning Initiative at the University of Pennsylvania Sept. 1. A Penn faculty member since 1998, Wortham has been the Judy and Howard Berkowitz Professor of Education since 2006. He has twice served as interim dean of Penn’s Graduate School of Education, and was associate dean for academic affairs for 10 years. He now works with faculty to develop online versions of Penn courses and to bring technological innovations to enrich face-to-face teaching. He is a linguistic anthropologist who has studied social identity development in classrooms and the positioning of new Mexican immigrants in American towns where large numbers of Latinos have settled during the past decade.
