Spotlight On … Jumatatu Poe ’04 and Tayarisha Poe ’12Siblings Jumatatu Poe ’04 and Tayarisha Poe ’12 were honored last year with awards from the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage. Jumatatu, a choreographer and Swarthmore assistant professor of music and dance, received a grant in support of his new work, Let ’im Move You: This Is a Formation, while Tayarisha, a filmmaker, was named one of 12 Pew fellows. “My work, especially this current series, centers on performance forms emerging from black queer ingenuity,” says Jumatatu. “It’s a privilege to be a part of a group of people with such brilliant notions about how the world works,” says Tayarisha, “and who put into practice those notions that they preach.” Read the full story.
