Politics, Unpacked Jason Zengerle ’96, a contributing writer for The New York Times Magazine and a correspondent for GQ, was honored with the 2019 Toner Prize for Excellence in Political Reporting, presented by Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications. Zengerle was recognized for his articles exploring the trickle-down effects of the Trump presidency on the House Intelligence Committee; the remaking of the federal courts; and the political promise and peril it has posed for certain Democrats. “There is so much richness in the storytelling,” one judge said of Zengerle’s entry, “lots of politics, policy, and humanity—all providing insight into the political and legislative process.”
