Spotlight on … Marga Jann ’72Marga Jann ’72, an architect and visiting research fellow at the University of Cambridge focusing on urban and cultural sociology and sustainable design, was awarded a Senior Fulbright Fellowship to Haiti, starting this fall. What does this honor mean to you? The Fulbright provides a wonderful opportunity to participate in the post-disaster reconstruction effort in the Caribbean and allows me to put into practice my research at Cambridge. How has Swarthmore shaped your life? Swarthmore has always had a strong emphasis on community service and nonviolent activism—old Quaker traditions which have impacted my life tremendously. Swarthmore also provides a strong base from which to spring into just about any field or profession. What advice would you give current Swarthmoreans hoping to follow in your path? I think my best advice comes from the old Quaker adage, "Let your life speak" and a quote from Winston Churchill, "Never never never give up." Anything else you’d like to say?
