Heather Repenning ’96—Dedicated Civil Servant Heather Repenning ’96 was nominated by Mayor Eric Garcetti to serve on the Los Angeles Board of Public Works in March. Eleven years after first working on Garcetti’s 2001 Los Angeles City Council campaign, Repenning, the mayor’s former director of external affairs, now serves on the only full-time commission in the city, directly overseeing the city’s bureau of sanitation and leading the board on issues related to water and the Los Angeles River. In addition to graduating Phi Beta Kappa in literature from Swarthmore, Repenning holds a master’s degree from the University of California, Irving in comparative literature.
