Edward Johnson ’46—'The Brownie Man'Edward Johnson ’46 was featured on a Portsmouth, N.H., news website, Seacoast, for his distinction as “The Brownie Man” among the parishioners of St. John’s Episcopal Church. A fellow volunteer says that Johnson may hold the “world’s record for brownie baking,” having baked more than 22,000 brownies over 13 years for the church’s Common Table, a weekly event offering free meals for 100-plus community members. A retired counselor, swim coach, and educator, Johnson has dedicated a record number of hours to volunteering because he “took a lot from the world and always wanted to give back.” Johnson, who attended Swarthmore with the Navy V-12 unit, was officially recognized for his contributions during a dinner and dance benefit June 6.
