All-American GirlKatie Jo McMenamin ’16 definitely is on the fast track. This spring, the Lafayette, Colo., native became the fifth—and only the second underclass student-athlete—to earn All-American status in women’s outdoor track and field. McMenamin, an engineering major, placed seventh in the 1,500-meter run at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Seeded 10th, McMenamin stayed in the back of the pack before pushing forward in the final lap of the race for a time of 4:37:25, five seconds behind the first-place runner. In indoor track, McMenamin helped the Garnet complete one of its best seasons: The team placed second at the 2014 Centennial Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the program’s second highest finish since 1998. Also a cross-country runner, McMenamin was one of 416 athletes across all three NCAA divisions to earn United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Women’s All-Academic honors this year.
