Barbara Mather '65
A partner at Pepper Hamilton LLP in Philadelphia until 2017, Mather formerly served as chair of the litigation and dispute resolution department. As a managing partner in the early 1990s, she was one of the first female leaders of a law firm in Pennsylvania, and has tried cases dealing with professional responsibility and malpractice, antitrust, securities, and corporate governance. Mather has also served as an adjunct professor for the University of Pennsylvania Law School and as Philadelphia city solicitor. Mather currently serves as Pepper Hamilton's general counsel. In 2013, she received a lifetime achievement award from The Legal Intelligencer, the oldest law journal in the United States.
Mather has given 30 continuous years of service to the Board, including as chair from 2004 to 2012. She earned a B.A. in political science with high honors from Swarthmore and a J.D. from the University of Chicago in 1968. She is married to T. Michael Mather.
