Jean Lyon Preer ’66
recently received the 2009 Greenwood Publishing Group award for Best Book in Library Literature. The American Library Association [ALA] selected her book Library Ethics for the award, which included a $5,000 prize. The awards committee praised Preer’s comprehensive approach to an issue that pervades every aspect of modern library life, her exhaustive coverage of all aspects of the topic, the enduring relevance of her work, and her combination of readability and thorough scholarship. Preer, whose research interests include American library history, intellectual freedom, and professional ethics, is a professor in the Indiana University School of Library and Information Science–Indianapolis. Past awards have included the 2007 Justin Winsor Prize by the Library History Round Table of the ALA, the 2006 Association for Library and Information Science Education Award for Teaching Excellence, and the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award in 2005.
