Alumni Gather at Events Around the Country
RECENT EVENTS
Boston: Boston alumni visited Formaggio Kitchen in September, including their wonderful cheese caves. Formaggio is one of the country’s premiere cheese shops, where alumni heard about the history and process of cheese making and learned the basics of tasting and building a cheese plate. Plus they were able to sample not only cheese but also a few wines and beers!
Chicago: Chicago-area alumni enjoyed a visit from Jeff Jabco, director of grounds at Swarthmore and coordinator of horticulture at the Scott Arboretum. Jabco led tours of three separate gardens—the gardens at Ball Horticultural Company, usually open only for wholesale customers; Cantigny Gardens and Park in Wheaton; and Millennium Park—over the course of a weekend.
New York: In August, Onu ’85 and Gina-Nicole O’Dell Odim ’88 hosted a black community gathering for current students and alumni at their home. More than 20 attendees enjoyed this late-summer soiree that included two members of the Class of 2014, who heard about the event via the Swarthmore grapevine.
Swarthmore: Members of the Garnet Sage Senate met on campus in late September to plan events for the coming year. Under consideration are a tour and luncheon at Winterthur Museum, a group trip to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and an afternoon at the Philadelphia Orchestra.
