No “Smoker Dorm” for Class of 2014
Hallowell, the only dorm that allows smoking and houses first-year students, will become smoke-free after the end of the academic year.
Hallowell, the only dorm that allows smoking and houses first-year students, will become smoke-free after the end of the academic year.
The decision to end smoking inside Hallowell was based upon discussions among students, resident assistants, and administrators as well as survey responses from the student body, said Assistant Dean of Residential Life Rachel Head in a March 25 Phoenix article.
Although this means that first-years will no longer have the option of living in smoker dorms, Head said that fewer than two percent of incoming students have expressed the wish to live in smoker dorms over the past several years.
The other dorms that allow smoking—Roberts, Worth, The Lodges, and Strath Haven—will continue to do so for now.
