"Joel is a strong leader with broad expertise in administrative computing, academic technology, and computing infrastructure in higher education," says Provost Tom Stephenson, who chaired the CITO search committee. "He also enjoys the respect of his peers across the country. I am very pleased that he is joining us in this important role."
Prior to Carleton, Cooper was the director of information technology at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind., where he designed and implemented the campus network, led a reorganization of the IT Department to integrate Media Services, and migrated the campus to Banner. Cooper came to Saint Mary's from the University of Notre Dame, where he served in several roles in the IT organization.
Cooper began his IT career at the University of Texas at Austin, after completing his Master's degree in Germanic Languages and Linguistics there. He also holds a B.A. in Dutch from Calvin College.
