Jazz Improviser Uri Caine
Uri Caine grasps the classics—Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Wagner, Mahler, Gershwin, Verdi—and shakes them up, challenging us to hear something unexpected in and around this familiar music. His performances—whether solo at the keyboard or with an ensemble, whether reimagining classical works or expanding on his own compositions—are audacious, exuberant, subtle, and intelligent. During his residency at Swarthmore, Caine will demonstrate his characteristic approach, at once deeply knowledgeable and vibrantly irreverent.
