Position Announcement:

The Department invites applications for a position as Academic Support Coordinator in introductory courses beginning in mid-August, 2008.

The Coordinator will work collaboratively with the department's faculty and students to initiate, maintain, and promote activities that provide students with resources to better achieve academic success. Examples of specific duties include: supervision and training of student mentors, tutors, and graders; weekly meetings with faculty and student mentors in introductory courses to discuss class performance and needs; regular periodic attendance at introductory calculus and linear algebra courses and at student-run mentoring sessions to assist with group work and to observe and interact with students; monitoring student progress, intervening when students are struggling; and assistance in assessment efforts to discover and remediate potential barriers to underrepresented groups in the department.

A Bachelor's degree is required. Knowledge of calculus is essential, with a degree in mathematics preferred. Additional preference shall be given to those with experience in mathematics instruction or general education. Candidates should also be available one or more evenings a week.
