SCHUMACHER COLLEGE, AN INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR ECOLOGICAL STUDIES

is inviting applications for scholarships for US citizens to attend its residential courses in southwest England. Courses are taught by leading ecological thinkers and writers, such as Fritjof Capra, Brian Goodwin, Stephan Harding, James Lovelock, Christine von Weizsaecker, Tewolde Berhan G Egziabher, Wes Jackson, Sunderlal Bahuguna, Wangari Maathai, Ronnie Cummins, Humberto Maturana, Candace Pert, Michael Ruff, Peter Matthiessen, Bill McKibben, David Abram, Amory Lovins, Ernst von Weizsaecker, Juliet Schor, Prasannan Parthasarathi, Richard Douthwaite, Ann Shearer and Marion Woodman.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR ECOLOGICAL STUDIES Funded by the Educational Foundation of America, the scholarships are to enable US citizens to attend courses between one and four weeks in length at Schumacher College. The scholarships are for people who can best use the knowledge they gain at the College to contribute towards a sustainable America.

(Please note that this scholarship scheme will run alongside our existing scholarship scheme for Western Europeans, and our bursary scheme for people from Eastern Europe and the Third World.)

WHAT IS SCHUMACHER COLLEGE? Schumacher College is an international centre for ecological studies, based in southwest England, which aims to explore the foundations of a more sustainable, balanced and harmonious world view. Its short residential courses are attended by people from all over the world, from all ages and backgrounds.

The course programme for January 1999 to September 1999 has been prepared, and scholarship applications are now invited from US citizens for courses during this period. Schumacher College wishes to award the scholarships to individuals who are now or are likely to become influential in their communities. They may be working or studying in the fields of education, environmentalism, public administration, journalism/media, community work, or green business.

The College strives to achieve diverse student groups on all courses. The EFA fund will be used to support this policy, and applications are welcomed from a wide range of social, ethnic and age groups.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINES There is no general scholarship deadline. Scholarship applications must be made with reference to a specific course, and the deadline for applications is two months before the particular course starts.

Schumacher College also runs a one-year taught MSc programme in Holistic Science, led principally by Professor Brian Goodwin and Dr Stephan Harding. Please note that the EFA Scholarship fund does not apply to the MSc.
