Information on the content of SITINGS

From: Natural Resources Defense Council

Greetings! We at the Natural Resources Defense Council have developed an environmental internet resource that we feel could be of great value to students and educators. Below, please find a full description of the service we are providing. If you are responsible for internet activity at your school, we would greatly appreciate it if you would give us a look. If someone else is, please do forward this message to the appropriate contact. Best Regards Linda Lopez

Dear Webmaster: Though the Web is awash in environmental information, tracking down the good stuff has always been hard -- until the appearance of SITINGS, our guide to green spots on the Net, at: http://www.nrdc.org/search/centf.html Published by the Natural Resources Defense Council, one of the premier environmental organizations in the United States, SITINGS features:

SITINGS does not attempt to be comprehensive (impossible!) or the biggest (why bother?). Instead, it steers visitors to high quality sites where they can get started with their environmental research RIGHT AWAY. Five things in particular set SITINGS apart from other environmental directories:

  1. We discriminate. What use are thousands of links if only a handful are good? At SITINGS, every link is a recommended one.
  2. We set an example. We show how *we* find information, so our visitors can learn to find it, too.
  3. We annotate our listings. To borrow an old saying -- a description's worth a thousand links.
  4. We practice free speech. Though we're environmentalists, we point to anti-environmentalist sites, too, because you can't argue one side effectively unless you know the other.
  5. We're NRDC. There's no way to say this modestly. NRDC has a hundred-odd environmental scientists, lawyers and technical specialists on staff, many of whom have been actively engaged in the modern environmental movement since its inception. You just can't beat experience.

Underwritten by the CitiCorp Foundation, SITINGS is the latest addition to the family of websites on NRDC Online: http://www.nrdc.org The others are E-AMICUS, our e-zine NRDC PRO, our technical web and WORLDVIEW, our flagship site, where we publish news, opinion, backgrounders, personal profiles, reference materials, action pages and more. Please take a look at SITINGS and let us know what you think. If you like it, please share the news with your colleagues and students -- we think they'll be glad for the tip. Thanks, Linda Lopez , Natural Resources Defense Council
