Gwynedd Grassland Research Project
2006
The Gwynedd Grassland Research Project seeks to understand best practices for restoring grasslands native to southeastern Pennsylvania. A randomized block experiment including treatments such as spring burning and seeding, spring seeding only, growing season burning with winter seeding, growing season burning with spring seeding, winter seeding only and control have been implemented in 2004-2005 on 18 30 x 40 meter plots. Each treatment has been replicated three times. The site is located north of Philadelphia in central Montgomery County.
Natural Lands Trust seeks a summer intern for the months of May through August to measure the vegetation response to these treatments. The successful candidate will have some knowledge of plant identification and an interest in working under summer field conditions and making the vegetation measurements. The project will also involve recording these data on a hand-held device with the help of NLT volunteers. Work in inclement weather may also involve analysis of the data at our offices in Media, PA. Transportation to the research site a requirement.
