Guidelines for Membership

Any student (or faculty/staff member) at the College who has worked on a research project that has produced some sort of written document as its culmination is eligible. This 'written document' can be anything from a peer-reviewed article in a journal to a poster at a meeting to an internal report. Any official venue (including the annual fall sudent research poster session here on campus) is OK. Note that a poster is a document, and an oral presentation at a meeting will have a submitted abstract, which counts as a 'document'. We also interpret the rules to encompass articles/posters/abstracts that have been submitted for publication/presentation but haven't yet appeared/been delivered.

There is membership information at the national organization's website too.

Application for membership:

[Word or pdf]

Notes about the application form:

* Students are typically only eligible for associate membership.

* If you worked with a research advisor on campus, have that person serve as your nominator. If you did not work with someone on campus, you can either ask a faculty member in the relevant department to serve as your nominator, or you can bring the form to Prof. Cheryl Grood (Sci 147), Sigma Xi president, who will serve as your nominator. We will take care of getting a Chapter representative to be the second nominator.

* Please include with the application form an abstract (and, if you have it, a copy of your paper or a one-page description of your research) with the title and a brief summary of your project.

*Bring or send completed application forms to Prof. Cheryl Grood in the Math/Stat department (Sci 147).
